Ingredients

  • For Butterbeer:
  • 2 cups cream soda
  • 1/4 cup butterscotch syrup
  • Whipped cream (for topping)
  • For Treacle Tart:
  • 1 pastry sheet (shortcrust pastry)
  • 1 cup golden syrup
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 large eggs
  • For Chocolate Frogs:
  • 8 oz chocolate (your choice of milk or dark)
  • Frog-shaped mold
  • Edible gold dust (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Butterbeer
    • Mix the Base: In a large mixing bowl, combine cream soda and butterscotch syrup. Stir gently.
    • Serve with Whipped Cream: Pour into glasses and top with whipped cream.
  2. Bake Treacle Tart
    • Preheat the Oven: Set oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Blind Bake the Pastry: Fit pastry into a tart pan, blind bake with parchment and weights for 10 minutes, then remove weights and bake for an additional 5 minutes.
    • Mix Filling Ingredients: Whisk together golden syrup, lemon juice, breadcrumbs, and beaten eggs until smooth.
    • Fill and Bake: Pour filling into the shell and bake for 20 minutes until set.
  3. Make Chocolate Frogs
    • Melt the Chocolate: Heat in a microwave or double boiler.
    • Pour into Molds: Carefully fill the frog-shaped molds with melted chocolate.
    • Chill to Set: Refrigerate for about 30 minutes.
    • Unmold and Enjoy: Remove chocolate frogs from the molds.

Notes

Chill cream soda beforehand for a frosty Butterbeer. Blind baking keeps the tart crust crisp. Allow both tart and chocolate to cool completely for perfect texture.
