A playful Halloween twist on classic mac and cheese featuring ghost-shaped mozzarella and creamy cheese sauce.

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces ghoul-shaped pasta (or any pasta of your choice)
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, cut into ghost shapes
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook the pasta: Boil a pot of water and cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. Make the roux: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, stir in the flour and cook for about 1 minute until bubbly, but don’t let it brown.
  3. Add the milk: Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth. Continue cooking, whisking constantly, until the mixture thickens to a creamy consistency (about 3-5 minutes).
  4. Create the cheese sauce: Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese, continuing to stir until melted and smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Combine pasta and sauce: Add the cooked pasta to the cheese sauce, stirring well to coat all the pasta.
  6. Prepare to bake: Transfer the mac and cheese mixture into a greased baking dish. Top it with the ghost-shaped mozzarella pieces.
  7. Bake: Place the dish in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) and bake for 15-20 minutes, until the top is bubbly and golden brown.

Notes

If you can’t find ghoul-shaped pasta, use any small pasta shape like shells or elbows. Mix different cheeses for added flavor, ensuring they melt well.
